Examples from Arizona's Food Poster Series
The Arizona State Council of Defense created a series of all-text posters covering a variety of food-related topics.
The top poster compared a forceful government in Germany with voluntary behavior the United States, and echoed Herbert Hoover's belief in a voluntary-only food rationing effort. Gardening was not just a way to conserve food for the war effort, but also a way to show an appreciation for liberty.
In the middle example, Arizonans are encouraged to eat food produced locally inside the state.
The bottom poster suggested a positive side benefit of eating health-giving foods: fewer doctor bills.
